Andhra Pradesh is the third largest state in India and the largest and most populous state in the whole of South India. The state with an area of 275,000 sq. km is also called the Rice Bowl of India. It lies between 12°41' and 22°N latitude and 77° and 84°40'E longitude and is bordered on the south by Tamil Nadu state, on the west by Karnataka state, on the north and northwest by Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh, on the northeast by Madhya Pradesh and Orissa states, and on the east by the Bay of Bengal.
